The ancient myths and stories about Poseidon
Mythology
Poseidon was the son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. Like his siblings, he was swallowed by his father at birth and later rescued by Zeus. After the defeat of the Titans, Poseidon was given dominion over the seas. He competed with Athena for the patronage of Athens by offering the city the first horse, but lost when Athena offered the olive tree, which was deemed more useful. Poseidon was known for his volatile temper, causing earthquakes and storms when angered.
