Hephaestus in Mythology
The ancient myths and stories about Hephaestus
Mythology
Hephaestus was either the son of Zeus and Hera or, according to some accounts, Hera alone. He was cast from Mount Olympus by his mother because of his deformity or lameness. He landed on the island of Lemnos, where he became a master craftsman. He was later readmitted to Olympus and married Aphrodite, though their marriage was unhappy. Hephaestus created many wondrous items for the gods, including Zeus's thunderbolts, Achilles's armor, and the trap that caught Aphrodite and Ares in their affair.
