Mythology
Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis. Shortly after his birth, he slew the serpent Python, which had been sent by Hera to torment his mother. He established the Oracle of Delphi on the site. Apollo was known for his many love affairs with both women and men, though they often ended tragically. He was also known for his musical contests, including one with the satyr Marsyas, whom he flayed alive after winning.
