Aphrodite was born from the sea foam that gathered around the severed genitals of Uranus after his son Cronus cast them into the sea. She was married to Hephaestus but had many affairs, most notably with Ares. She played a significant role in starting the Trojan War by offering Paris the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen, in exchange for him judging Aphrodite the most beautiful goddess over Hera and Athena.
